On last night's American Idol...
- Katie Stevens went first with "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson. Randy Jackson called it karaoke. Ellen DeGeneres said the performance lacked personality.
- Siobhan Magnus, with a trademark flower in her hair, sang "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals. Randy and Kara DioGuardi liked it. Simon Cowell didn't.
- Lacey Brown put on her best in leopard print to sing "The Story" by Brandi Carlisle. Randy thought it was boring. Simon didn't like the song, but thought she sang well.
- Katelyn Epperly sang "I Feel the Earth Move" by Carole King. Randy couldn't feel the connection. Simon said it was like something you'd hear from a lounge singer.
- Didi Benami brought her guitar for "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac. Ellen said it was a great performance. Kara and Simon said she was the best of the night so far.
- Paige Miles did the old Charlie Chaplin chestnut "Smile." Ellen and Kara agreed that she sang it with too much sadness.
- Crystal Bowersox brought her guitar and harmonica for bluesy version of Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason." Ellen called it the performance of the night.
- Lilly Scott closed things out with Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces." Three judges loved it. Simon just liked it.
The top eight guys sing on tonight's American Idol. Vegas odds put Lee Dewyze at the head of the pack after his rendition of Hinder's "Lips of An Angel" prompted Simon Cowell to say he's the one to beat.
Casey James has a good shot according to odds-makers, although last week Kara DioGuardi took a break from her usual crushing to tell Casey he's giving us a little too much guitar.
Andrew Garcia, the former front-runner, has fallen behind but is still strong. Last week, Ellen DeGeneres said he's yet to match his popular take on Paula Abdul's "Straight Up," and Simon said he needs to show us something more special.
Big Michael Lynche is getting ever bigger. Simon said his last performance of James Brown's "It's A Man's, Man's, Man's World" was like watching Mike go "from a pussycat to a lion."
