Firefighters extinguished a fire early Tuesday inside Aldi on Holiday Drive in Dubuque. The Dubuque Fire Department responded at about 3 a.m. When crews arrived, the store was full of smoke. Reports day crews forced entry and extinguished the fire in a display freezer on the sales floor. One sprinkler head activated during the fire and the fire damage was contained to two freezers. The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to have originated in the freezer mechanism from a malfunction. No injuries reported and property damage is minimal. Firefighters cleared the scene at about 5:20am. Sources say the freezer is a loss and some of the grocery product will probably have to go.The health department was notified to help make a determination.
