Richland Center’s police chief is facing sexual assault and theft charges – months after he was put on paid leave during an investigation. Charges against 40-year-old Lucas Clements were filed Tuesday – including three counts of 4th-degree sexual assault and a count of theft. His charges are connected to an incident that happened on June 16th. According to reports, the state began investigating Clements in June. However, the state didn’t reveal what wrong-doing the agency was investigating. A special prosecutor took over the investigation in late August because of a conflict of interest. The Richland Center police and fire commission put Clements on paid administrative leave once the investigation began. Lieutenant Billy Jones is serving as acting chief in the interim.
