Wisconsin Supreme Court Suspends Restriction On In Person Schooling

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Thursday temporarily suspended restrictions barring most Dane County students from attending school in person — restrictions the joint city-county health department argues are necessary to stem the spread of COVID-19. In a 4-3 decision released Thursday evening, the court’s conservative-backed majority agreed to hear legal challenges filed against a coronavirus-related order Public Health Madison and Dane County issued last month requiring students in grades 3-12 be taught online after three groups of religious schools and parents appealed directly to the high court. Under the court’s order, county schools can open for in-person classes as soon as Friday.
