SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — An armed driver accused of leading police on a chase through multiple counties was arrested outside a Sun Prairie school early Monday morning, according to a release by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Troopers initially tried pulling over the driver for speeding around 9 a.m. on westbound I-94 near mile marker 255 in Jefferson County.
According to the release, the driver was wanted through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for armed robbery. Authorities said the car involved was also reported stolen out of Milwaukee.
The driver sped away and led troopers on a chase, the release said. Troopers terminated the chase in Dane County after the driver’s speed reached 100 miles per hour.
Authorities found the empty vehicle in the employee parking lot of Sun Prairie High School, the release said. Sun Prairie officers assisted in searching the area for the driver. The driver was found on school grounds. During the arrest, police found a loaded handgun on the suspect.
Officers said it appears the suspect also tried to enter the school at some point.
Several students were inside the building at the time of this incident, the release said.
The Wisconsin State Patrol did not identify the driver involved in the news release.
