MADISON, Wis. — Two people have been displaced following an apartment fire in Madison on Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a six-unit residential building on the 1300 block of Rutledge Street after receiving reports of smoke coming from one of the units inside.
Crews arrived to the scene and found smoke from the rear of the building as well as smoke pushing out from the top of the unit’s door, according to the incident report. Officials forced entry and found the fire as other crews helped residents get out of the building safely.
Officials said the unit’s tenants were not home during the fire, but two dead cats were found. A gecko was also found alive and taken outside.
