SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The gun used in an accidental shooting that hospitalized a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head was stolen from a vehicle, according to the Sun Prairie Police Department.
Officials said Thursday that the gun was taken from a vehicle in a residential area near the movie theater where the 16-year-old accidentally shot himself.
Police responded to the parking lot of the Palace Cinema Movie Theater on Hoepker Road around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found two other juveniles, a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old, at the scene.
Officials said the 16-year-old was in surgery Wednesday morning and is expected to survive.
The investigation is still ongoing and criminal charges against the juveniles are pending, according to a news release.
