MADISON, Wis. — An additional 22 inmates in the Dane County Public Safety Building have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the jail’s total number of confirmed cases to 38.
On Wednesday, 16 inmates housed in receiving at the jail tested positive for the coronavirus.
A short time later, multiple inmates in another housing unit began showing mild symptoms. The entire housing unit was subsequently tested. Twenty-two of those tests came back positive.
Jail officials said all inmates who have tested positive are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
Inmates who have tested positive will be isolated an monitored by jail staff, according to a news release. If symptoms worsen, inmates will be transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
