MADISON, Wis. — Madison Streets Division crews deployed 32 plow trucks Tuesday morning to clear the roads of snow following the season’s first significant snowfall.
Trucks began plowing and salting on the city’s salt route when the snow began to stick to the pavement Tuesday morning.
Salt routes include most of Madison’s major roadways, including bus routes and roads near hospitals. According to the Streets Division, salt routes make up roughly half of the city’s traffic lanes.
Residential roads, which make up the other half of the city’s roadways, are not plowed until there is three or more inches of snow by the end of a snow storm.
Officials said the Tuesday morning storm did not warrant plowing residential streets.
