PORTAGE, Wis. — A 36-year-old woman was run over by a truck after jumping out and attempting to stop the vehicle from rolling through private parking lots and toward a steep embankment at the Portage Canal early Saturday morning.
Columbia County Dispatch Center said they received a report of a vehicle accident with injuries in the 200 block of W Wisconsin St. but it was discovered at the 200 block of W Edgewater St. on the walking path next to the Portage Canal.
According to the incident report, police interviewed the victim and the passenger in the vehicle and were able to determine the accident was likely caused by mechanical failures.
The victim said she attempted to stop the vehicle but safety mechanisms failed. As a result, she jumped from the vehicle and was run over.
The victim was stabilized and transported by Asprius-Divine Savior EMS to a waiting UW Madison Hospital medical helicopter. She was then transported to a regional hospital with an unknown level of serious injuries.
The victim’s current status is not known.
