MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is launching a new education and awareness campaign in an effort to increase flu vaccination rates among Wisconsin’s communities of color.
The new campaign includes social media ads on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, plus ads on broadcast and digital radio. Some ads will be in Spanish.
“Historically in Wisconsin, there have been many barriers that have led to communities of color having the lowest vaccination rates in the state, and consequently, that is where we find high rates of the flu,” DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm said. “As our agency focuses on improving health equity, we must actively work to address these barriers and help all of our residents know how important the flu vaccine is to protect them and their communities from serious illness.”
Health officials say the flu vaccine is recommended for anyone six months old and older. Experts say that while the flu vaccine won’t protect against COVID-19, it can help lessen the burden Wisconsin’s health care workers are facing as the pandemic continues on.
DHS has launched a new website with important information about the flu and flu vaccine as part of the Be an InFLUencer campaign.
