WATERTOWN, Wis. — A Watertown family has been displaced following a kitchen fire Monday afternoon.
Dispatchers received a report of a fire at a 2-story apartment complex on the 1100 block of Boughton Street, according to a news release.
The Watertown Fire Department arrived and found smoke coming from the unit’s front door as people were evacuating. Firefighters entered the unit and knocked down the fire, while a rescue crew searched and found the family’s cat.
Officials determined a cooking incident involving the kitchen’s stovetop caused the fire.
None of the firefighters were hurt, but a civilian at the scene and the cat were elevated for smoke inhalation.
The American Red Cross has planned to help the five who were displaced.
Damages are estimated to be roughly $20,000, though no other units reported damage.
