MADISON, Wis. — As a part of their goodwill initiative over the 2020 holiday season, Hy-Vee is donating more than 1 million pounds of food to 17 Feeding America-affiliated food banks across the Midwest to help combat food insecurity during the pandemic.
The company partnered with national and regional food manufacturers and suppliers to fill more than 20 truckloads with food and supplies which will be unloaded from Dec. 14 to Dec 16. One of the participating organizations is Madison’s own Second Harvest Food Bank.
“We partner with Second Harvest a lot… we really believe in everything they do for the community so on behalf of Hy-Vee and our vendor partners, we’ve provided a truckload worth of groceries today,” said Whitney Way Hy-Vee Store Director Jim Banasik.
Banasik said this truckload contains about 28,000 pounds of food and is just one part of their store’s continuous effort to give back to the community. The company said in a release that in addition to their continued support of food banks, they held several initiatives this past year, including produce giveaways, meat distributions, fundraisers and meal giveaways totaling more than $3 million to provide food and support throughout its eight-state region.
