MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin will receive 49,725 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine this week.
Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services made the announcement Monday afternoon. According to a news release, the shipments are expected to increase during the coming weeks and months.
“Since the early days in the pandemic, we have been planning and preparing for the arrival of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine,” Evers said. “I fully trust in the expertise of our scientists, researchers, and public health experts who are guiding our planning, preparation, and distribution. They have put a lot of effort into ensuring that the vaccine infrastructure and clinics are ready for the successful rollout of our Wisconsin COVID-19 Vaccine Program.”
Evers said the first doses will be shipped directly to eight hubs throughout the state.
UW Health received its first shipment of the vaccine Monday morning. Officials said they hope to start vaccinating health care workers as soon as possible.
