MADISON, Wis. — An ICU nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital was the first SSM Health employee to receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine hours after the health care provider received its first shipment of doses Tuesday morning.
“I just think it is amazingly momentous,” Teeter said. “I am so thankful I was able to get the vaccine today.”
Pfizer’s vaccine requires two doses. SSM Health said Teeter is scheduled to get her second dose in three weeks. Teeter said she plans to encourage others to get it as soon as it’s widely available.
“I just feel like this is going to offer a little glimmer of hope that things will start to get back to normal,” Teeter said.
SSM Health received roughly 6,000 doses of the vaccine in its first allocation. Statewide, health officials expect to get nearly 50,000 doses of the vaccine this week.
