VERONA, Wis. — Verona police caught a package thief Monday after an officer saw a 15-year-old throw a carboard box out of a car window in the 1000 block of Acker Lane.
When the officer saw the teen throw the box out of the car, the officer initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, the 15-year-old passenger admitted to stealing several packages from an area apartment building.
Police said the driver and 15-year-old passenger both claimed the driver was not involved in the thefts.
The officer recovered multiple items from the vehicle, which were eventually returned to their owners. Many of the six victims said the packages stolen contained Christmas presents.
Police said the total value of the stolen items was more than $200.
The teen was issued six citations for theft and has been ordered to appear in court.
Anyone who lives at or near 1021 Acker Lane and is missing packages that were delivered on or around Dec. 14 should contact the Verona Police Department at 608-845-7623.
