JANESVILLE, Wis. — Janesville police are investigating after a man entered a woman’s home claiming he worked for the Janesville Water Department.
According to a news release, the man was wearing a lanyard with photo identification and was driving a blue vehicle when he went into the woman’s home in the 1600 block of Liberty Lane around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
The release said the man asked the elderly woman to turn on the hot water as he check it with some sort of laser device.
Police said he looked around the home but didn’t steal anything. He left when he told the woman he didn’t need to change out the water meter att his time.
Officials said the Janesville Water Department is currently working in the area changing out water meters and transmitters, but they send out notices via mail and schedule appointments. They also always wear clothes and drive vehicles identifying them as City of Janesville employees.
