MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Tony Evers and the state Department of Health Services announced the Alternate Care Facility will open an outpatient infusion clinic next week for COVID-19 patients, according to a news release.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized bamlanivimab for emergency use last month for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in patients. The release said the drug helps to “bridge the gap between a new virus entering the body and the body’s creation of antibodies to fight it off.”
The clinic will open Tuesday and is located at the facility in West Allis.
“We opened the alternative care facility to make sure folks can get the care they need and relieve some of the stress on our hospitals,” Evers said in a statement. “We are always open to new ways we can evolve the ACF to meet Wisconsin’s needs and opening this new infusion clinic is another piece to that puzzle.”
The clinic can serve up to 84 patients weekly and will have a separate space from the inpatient area. With the exception of Christmas Day and New Years’ Day, it will be open seven days a week.
No walk-in appointments are offered, as patients must be directly referred from a health system or hospital.
