MADISON, Wis. — A federal judge sentenced a man Friday to 8 years and 4 months in prison in connection with three bank robberies that happened in 2019.
In September 2019, 31-year-old Antonio Rowe robbed three Madison banks, according to a news release. Rowe pleaded guilty to the robbery charges on July 28.
Officials said Rowe robbed the BMO Harris Bank on Sherman Avenue on Sept. 10, 2019, the Associated Bank on East Towne Boulevard on Sept. 13, 2019, and the UW Credit Union on Northport Drive on Sept. 26, 2019.
After the UW Credit Union robbery, Rowe and his co-defendant Ramon Howard fled in a vehicle. Rowe, who was driving, hit multiple vehicles while driving at high speeds through residential neighborhoods. Rowe eventually crashed on East Washington Avenue before he and Howard ran off. They were eventually caught by Madison police officers. Howard was in possession of the stolen cash at the time of the arrest.
During the sentencing hearing, Rowe said he was acting out of impulse, but U.S. District Judge William Conley said Rowe wasn’t taking responsibility for his actions.
Judge Conley said Rowe’s lengthy criminal history, opportunities to rehabilitate himself and the fact he robbed the banks while on state supervision were contributing factors to the sentence. Rowe was also ordered to pay restitution.
Howard pleaded guilty on June 25 and was sentenced to nine years in federal prison.
The charges filed against Rowe and Howard came after an investigation by the Madison Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
