BEAVER DAM, Wis. — First responders rescued a man Tuesday morning after he fell through the ice on Beaver Dam Lake.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center got a call at 5:37 a.m. Tuesday from someone who was on the line but was not communicating. Before the call was disconnected, dispatchers traced the location to Beaver Dam Lake west of Sunset Bay Drive near a boat landing roughly 200 yards from the shore.
Roughly 10 minutes later, officials made contact with the caller who reported that he had fallen through the ice but was able to get out of the water and back onto the ice.
The Beaver Dam Fire and Rescue Department was contacted to rescue the stranded man. Before Beaver Dam rescue crews arrived, a DCSO deputy arrived at the scene and deployed a drone to locate the man on the ice.
Rescue crews deployed a hovercraft around 6:10 a.m. that they used to rescue the man from the ice.
Beaver Dam Fire Department paramedics assessed and treated the man for hypothermia. He refused transport to a hospital and was released.
