MADISON, Wis. — Police arrested a man Tuesday for operating while under the influence for the third time this month.
The man, 36-year-old William C. Maysack admitted to using heroin, according to an incident report.
According to the report, Maysack was behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle in the 1800 block of South Stoughton Road shortly before noon on Tuesday when a woman spotted him driving slowly before slumping over the steering wheel.
Police said a Madison Fire Department paramedic who responded to the scene was able to reach into the car, put it into park and take the keys.
Earlier this month, police arrested Maysack following two other incidents involving stolen vehicles and erratic driving.
On Dec. 7, a woman reported to police that a heavily damaged vehicle nearly hit her on Segoe Road near Sawyer Terrace. She told police the driver, later identified as Maysack, was driving in the wrong lane of traffic. Another witness told police the vehicle was missing one tire, another was flat and the bumpers were damaged.
Police said Maysack abandoned the car and walked off before he was arrested at a bus stop in the area.
Two days later, on Dec. 9, an off-duty MPD lieutenant spotted a stolen vehicle with its headlights off driving in and out of a ditch. The driver, again later identified as Maysack, was also driving in the wrong lanes of traffic on county highways T and TT.
The off-duty officer estimated that Maysack was driving at speeds of up to 70 mph. Deputies with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Troopers boxed in the stolen car near the intersection of County Highway TT and County Highway N before conducting a high-risk traffic stop. Maysack was subsequently arrested.
Police said the vehicle was stolen from a food delivery driver who left it unlocked and running outside of a North Livingston Street residence.
