MADISON, Wis. — Thursday is expected to be the busiest day for travel to holiday destinations, but analysts are expecting the vast majority of travelers will stay home for the holidays.
The need to travel home for the holidays comes with added risk as coronavirus cases are surging.
“If you do have to travel, traveling by air is still the safest option. Back in October the DOD released a survey about the air quality in an airplane. The air in an airplane is circulated and scrubbed five to six times more than what’s in an operating room; and fifteen times more than what’s in a typical home. Your chances of contacting anything is very very low,”said Michael Riechers, Director of Marketing and Communications.
If you are flying the CDC recommends booking your ticket for Christmas eve, Christmas day, or News Years day to avoid high-volume times.
The Dane County Airport also says you should distance yourself from others when possible, sanitize your hands frequently, and sanitize chairs and seats.
“Come prepared with the masks, cover your coughs and sneezes. Wash your hands frequently, sanitize your hands before and after those high touch points that you can’t avoid. We’ve seen high success when everyone is doing their piece in this it makes for a very safe and efficient experience, “said Riechers.
The centers for disease control recommends postponing travel and staying home above all else, but advises those who do choose to meet with friends and family to get tested both before and after traveling.
