MADISON, Wis. – Madison-based social worker Jackie Hunt is driving in style after she was surprised with a new van Thursday morning.
Hunt, who created F.O.S.T.E.R. (Families Overcoming Struggles to Encourage Resilience) during a human services course at Madison College in 1999, had no idea the surprise was coming.
“I’m still just processing it right now, it feels amazing,” she said. “I’m not going to lie. It feels amazing to be honest. It really does. I’m still just struggling with how I got played.”
The surprise could not have come at a better time, either. During the snowstorm earlier this month, her van, which she uses to serve families throughout Madison, was totaled. When Jenny Meicher-Santek of the Dane County Boys and Girls Club found out, she stepped into action. After a phone call with Middleton’s Schoepp Motors, the plan was in place.
“She’s got the biggest heart,” Meicher-Santek said while describing Hunt. “I’m just so excited to be able to excited to help her.”
Meicher-Santek joined Hunt’s colleagues at the dealership Thursday morning, where Hunt thought she’d be putting a down payment on a vehicle to replace her totaled van. Instead, the car was free.
“She just has such a big heart. I’m just so happy that I can help her, because I know she’s going to go out and help hundreds of other families,” Meicher-Santek said.
Hunt proved her correct, too. Within moments of getting the car, she was using it to deliver gifts to a single mother on Madison’s Northeast side.
“I know for whom our blessings come. He used y’all as vehicles to bless this woman today. I appreciate it. I have to serve. I was created to serve. That’s what I do now,” she said.
