MADISON, Wis. — Vaccinations at long-term nursing facilities throughout the state are now underway.
Gov. Tony Evers announced the Pharmacy Partnership Program for Long-Term Care‘s start on Monday.
Evers initially announced the program earlier this month. It allows pharmacies like Walgreens or CVS to provide free COVID-19 vaccines for residents and staff at long-term care facilities throughout the state. The pharmacies handle all of the vaccine management and logistics.
“This partnership will help reduce the strain on our long-term care facilities and help deliver the vaccine to those in higher-risk populations,” Evers said. “Protecting our most vulnerable Wisconsinites is a top priority and will be a critical step for the success of Wisconsin’s COVID-19 Vaccine Program.”
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has allocated 56,800 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for the program.
The program is expected to continue at participating facilities for two months, according to a news release.
