MADISON, Wis. — The snow Wisconsin got Sunday isn’t helping the preparation for the potential storm Tuesday.
Roads were still a little wet Monday evening from all the moisture in the snow that fell over the weekend. That could pose a problem for street crews if roads aren’t dry well before snowfall on Tuesday.
The city of Madison, and any other municipality that treats roads before snow storms, needs dry asphalt in order for the brine mixture to work correctly. If roads stay wet, they’ll just have to tackle the snow as it comes. The Madison streets division said if that’s the case, some of the leftover salt could help with melting the snow on the roads.
Regardless, they want people to take precautions if they have to drive in it.
“If you have to be out on the roads then make sure you’re giving yourself plenty of time to get to where you have to go,” said Bryan Johnson, a spokesperson for the city of Madison streets division. “Even with our trucks being out there if it’s actively snowing, it’s going to be hard to travel.”
Johnson said crews are good on supplies going into this next storm, and other municipalities News 3 Now talked to say they are ready too.
On Monday, in addition to cleaning up anything left over from the weekend, plow drivers fueled up their trucks and double checked that everything is ready to go for this next round.
Until these roads dry out the experts say to assume that a wet road is a slick road, so slow down and give yourself plenty of room.
