MADISON, Wis. — A Beloit woman, accused of hitting and killing a man as he changed a flat tire, was given a $10,000 cash bond during a hearing in Rock County court on Monday.
Alexa R. Simpson, 27, is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. She is also charged with several misdemeanors, including possession of THC and bail jumping.
Simpson was also ordered to remain sober at all times and to avoid contact with the victim’s family.
Simpson was arrested on Sunday. According to a news release from the Beloit Police Department, a man was changing a flat tire on Maple Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Police said the an was positioned between his vehicle and an assisting vehicle as he worked. Police said the man was pinned between the two cars after someone drove into the assisting vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police have not released his identity, but said he was 24-years-old and from the town of Beloit.
Simpson’s next court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 15.
