MADISON, Wis. — Dr. Zorba Paster and numerous SSM Health employees received their second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week. Now, the health care provider is working to vaccinate other frontline health care workers.
SSM Health began immunizing its first group of employees roughly three weeks ago. Since starting immunizations, more than 7,000 SSM Health employees throughout the state have gotten the vaccine.
With thousands of employees already vaccinated, SSM Health is coordinating with local public health departments and emergency responders to make sure any eligible health care workers and service providers not affiliated with a health care provider get vaccinated. Unaffiliated health care workers include dental or orthodontics offices, home health care providers, emergency medical services providers, school nurses and more.
According to a news release, SSM Health is working directly with public health departments in Fond du Lac, Green, Rock, Sauk and Dane counties to coordinate vaccinations for EMS providers and other health care teams.
The vaccinations are expected to start Wednesday.
Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine requires a second dose three weeks after the first to achieve its 95% efficacy rate, according to clinical trials.
