MADISON, Wis. — The pilot killed in a fatal F-16 crash last month will be honored with a hero’s welcome at the 115th Fighter Wing when his remains are returned to Wisconsin on Saturday.
Major Durwood “Hawk” Jones was killed when his F-16 jet crashed in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in early December. He was found two days later.
After Maj. Jones’ remains arrive in Wisconsin, a processional from 115th Fighter Wing main gate to the Cress Funeral Home on University Avenue will take place. Anyone in the community looking to honor Maj. Jones is encourged to line the route of the procession to show their support.
The 115th Fighter Wing shared a map of the procession route in a Facebook post on Friday.
A memorial service is expected to be scheduled for a later date.
