MADISON, Wis. — Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway says money coming to the city through President Joe Biden’s coronavirus relief package is allowing her to roll back planned furlough days for city employees.
The mayor had previously required city employees to take mandatory furlough days as part of cost-saving measures due to the pandemic.
“With federal aid on the way, my top priority is to make sure there are no further reductions in the critical services our residents depend on,” Mayor Rhodes-Conway said in a statement.
About $50 million will be coming to Madison over the next two years as part of the relief package, which the mayor’s office says will offset a “significant portion” of the revenue the city lost during the pandemic. Because of that, the mayor says city agencies will no longer need to continue Workshare plans, which had saved the city about half a million dollars but led to a reduction in some city services.
