MIDDLETON, Wis. — Police arrested a man Tuesday night on a tentative felony OWI charge after he ran from officers during a traffic stop on Century Avenue at Middleton Springs Drive.
A Middleton police officer initially conducted the traffic stop because of a defective headlamp and brake lamp on the vehicle in question. During the stop, the driver, 40-year-old Bernardo Vasquez, ran from the vehicle.
Officers with the Middleton Police Department and deputies with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter in the area as a Middleton K-9 unit conducted a track. Police said they found Vasquez in an area nearby.
Authorities said they found open intoxicants in Vasquez’s vehicle. Vasquez also reportedly smelled of alcohol. He was subsequently arrested on tentative fourth-offense OWI and resisting an officer charges. He was also cited for operating after suspension of his driver’s license and open intoxicants.
