MADISON, Wis. — A local organization is giving away $1 million worth of Under Armour sporting equipment to local kids and teens thanks to a donation from the NFL Combine.
The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County Sports Academy plans to host a mini Skills & Drills Clinic at Breese Stevens Field on Thursday afternoon where kids will get to practice their skills and meet former NFL running back and Heisman-Trophy-winner Ron Dayne.
“Our out-of-school programs uniquely support youth to mitigate opportunity gaps, and help provide them with the resources and experiences needed to reach their full potential,” said Michael Johnson, President & CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County. “We are extremely grateful to announce our plans to distribute over $1M in Under Armour Sports Equipment donated by the National Football League Combine.”
All registered youth will get a free pair of Under Armour cleats and gloves at the end of their session. Registration for the event closed Wednesday night.
The mini skills session will be split into two sessions with 50 participants per slot. The first will run from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and the second will run from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Johnson said the organization partnered with the Black Men Coalition of Dane County to transport all of the sporting goods to Madison. Christian Conors, President at Shooter Detection Systems in Boston; Jim Hartlieb, President of First Business Bank in Madison; Oscar Mireles, Executive Director of the Omega School; and an anonymous donor helped make the operation possible, according to a news release.
