WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — In one of the more surprising results during the first full day of the NCAA Tournament, No. 9 Wisconsin blew right past No. 8 North Carolina.
The Badgers made threes early and often in the first half and stole the 85-62 win at Mackey Arena on the campus of Purdue University. Wisconsin now has to get past No. 1 Baylor if it wants a trip to the Sweet 16. Greg Gard’s team hasn’t made the second weekend since 2017.
Senior Brad Davison scored 16 points in the first half, en route to a game-high 29 points.
Entering Friday, the Badgers had lost four of their last five games, with the one win coming last Friday in the Big Ten Quarterfinals over Penn State, 75-74. Wisconsin became the second Big Ten team to win a 2021 tournament game, joining No. 1 Illinois. No. 11 Michigan State and No. 2 Ohio State both lost their opening round game.
