MADISON, Wis. — Firefighters believe a recent RV fire that broke out on Madison’s west side was an accident.
Crews responded to the 4200 block of the Beltline Highway shortly after 8:30 a.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call from a passerby who stopped to help the occupant of the RV.
Authorities said the occupant told officials his mattress caught fire from a candle that was burning nearby. He tried putting out the fire, but it only continued to grow, until it enveloped the entire RV.

Firefighters at the scene said flames were coming from all sides of the RV and threatening nearby power lines and a building when they arrived.
The occupant escaped the RV uninjured, but the vehicle and all of its contents were destroyed.
Officials said the damage was too extensive to formally confirm the fire’s exact cause, but they believe it was likely accidental.
