MADISON, Wis. — The Henry Vilas Zoo says it is reopening its Lake Wingra entrance and the Children’s Zoo after more than a year on Monday, March 29th.
The Children’s Zoo is one of the last areas of the zoo to re-open to the public, which officials say was due to COVID-19 protocols.
“Our goal is to phase in re-opening as safely and quickly as possible,” Executive Zoo Director Ronda Schwetz said in a statement. “The Children’s Zoo has the narrowest walkways throughout the whole zoo, which is why it has been the last outdoor area to remain closed. We also have COVID-susceptible gibbons and had to modify their outdoor exhibit space to ensure we are protecting them.”
The zoo says it is also now making the carousel available to ride 7 days a week, which carousel rides costing $3. The Glacier Grille and Chocolate Shoppe will also be open every day. However, the train and playground are still closed for the time being.
Everyone aged 5 and up will still be required to wear a mask while at the zoo.
