MADISON, Wis. — Nearly 30% of Wisconsinites have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state Department of Health Services.
A total of 1,726,519 people across the state have gotten the first dose, while 1,013,613 residents have fully completed the vaccine series. More than 2.7 million doses of vaccine have been administered to date, including 22,653 in the past day.
Beginning April 5, all residents who are 16 and older will be eligible for the vaccine.
Although vaccination rates have accelerated, the number of new COVID-19 cases saw a sharp increase Tuesday. Wisconsin reported 588 new cases of the virus, which nearly doubles Monday’s case count. The seven-day rolling average of new cases per day is at 501 as of Tuesday afternoon.
The state has reached an all-time total of 576,632 confirmed cases, and nearly 6,700 of those are active.
Despite a surge in new cases, the overall positivity rate continues to remain below 3%. Health officials said the seven-day average percent positive by test is at 2.7% for the third day in a row.
At least 6,612 have died of coronavirus complications, with 11 new deaths confirmed Tuesday. An additional 65 have been hospitalized within the past day, which is roughly twice as much compared to Monday’s hospitalizations.
