MADISON, Wis. — If you’re an essential worker who can’t work from home, UW Health wants your help.
They’re expanding enrollment in a COVID-19 study. The health system is looking into whether commonly used oral and nasal antiseptics, masks and hand hygiene can prevent the spread of the virus.
Health officials are interested in first responders, daycare and grocery store workers, and retail employees, among other workers, joining the study.
“Health care workers are at a higher risk for COVID,” said Dr. Nasia Safdar. “So it seemed like the right group to start with. But realizing there are many other people working in jobs where the risk is also very high and those are all other kinds of essential workers. So that’s now extended the study to include them as well.”
So far, the study has enrolled 75 people. Study leaders would like to enroll at least 25 more.
