MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation is releasing the name of the Madison police officer who fired his weapon during an incident at a homeless shelter last month.
Officers were called to the temporary men’s shelter on First Street at about 7:24 p.m. on March 22nd to respond to a medical issue outside the shelter. While they were there, gunshots were heard inside the building. The DOJ says the officers were confronted by a man with a gun later identified as Ronald Stephens when they went inside, and Officer Morgan Youngquist fired his gun.

Stephens ran off but was later arrested in Milwaukee after turning himself in.
Youngquist has one year of service with the Madison Police Department, according to the DOJ.
The DOJ says it is continuing to investigate the incident and is not releasing any other information about why the officer fired his weapon at this time.
