MADISON, Wis. — Public libraries in Madison won’t reopen for expanded in-person services until the library’s board can meet again in May.
The board voted Thursday night to delay the decision to re-open more in-person services until their next meeting on May 6th, when they will look at an updated plan and timeline.
That means the planned in-person expansion, which was scheduled to start on April 19th, won’t happen until sometime in May at the earliest. That plan included the reopening of libraries for in-person browsing, self-pickup for holds and access to basic desk services.
“After careful consideration, most of our members felt it was important to take the time to learn more details about the library’s plans for expanding service,” Library Board president Eve Galanter said in a statement after the board’s meeting. “Moving this discussion to May will allow for more library staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, which was a concern voiced by some staff. We are looking forward considering an updated plan and timeline in May.”
While the in-person reopening of the libraries is delayed, curbside pickup service is still available, and people wanting to use the library’s computers are able to schedule a one-hour appointment. More information can be found on the library’s website or by calling the library’s centralized line at 608-315-5151.
