MADISON, Wis. — SSM Health says it is going to follow CDC and FDA recommendations and temporarily put a pause on providing the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
In an update issued Tuesday morning, SSM Health says none of its currently-scheduled or open appointments will use the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
“We will continue to follow the recommendations from CDC and FDA,” a statement on SSM Health’s vaccine rollout website says. “If they determine the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can be used again in the future, we may resume use of this product.”
SSM Health joins Public Health Madison & Dane County in following the recommendation to put a temporary pause on giving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, after 6 people out of 6.8 million doses (0.000088%) reported suffering from blood clots.
The FDA and CDC are recommending a temporary pause until more information can be gathered, but the emergency use authorization for the vaccine has not been revoked.
