MADISON, Wis. — The Hmong Institute is partnering with local health care providers to host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for Hmong and Southeast Asian community members this weekend.
The clinic will run Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Hmong Institute, located at 4402 Femrite Dr. in Madison. Access Community Health Centers, the Wisconsin Hmong Nurse Association and Hmong Medical Association are working with The Hmong Institute to staff the clinic.
Clinic organizers said they organized the clinic to address language barriers that may have gotten in the way of community members getting vaccinated.
“For many in the Hmong and Southeast Asian community, language and travel continue to be two biggest barriers,” CEO of the Hmong Institute Peng Her said. “Language barriers discourage many from watching the evening news in English, resulting in not knowing where vaccine clinics are being held. Many lack the computer skills to look up where vaccine appointments are available. Lastly, for most people who may be working two jobs they cannot drive to another city to get a vaccine shot.”
Vaccinations at the clinic are only available with an appointment. Hmong doctors and nurses will be present to reduce fear and answer questions about the vaccine.
The Hmong Institute also hosted a vaccination clinic for community members in early March.
