MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Tony Evers announced $50 million to support kids’ learning opportunities and mental health on Tuesday.
The ‘Beyond the Classroom’ grants will supper leaning opportunities and mental health programs for Wisconsin school-aged kids through funding of up to $500,000 per non-profit organization.
Up to $25 million will be available for programming during the summer months of 2021 and an additional $25 million will be available in the 2021-2022 school year and the following summer months.
In a statement, Gov. Evers said: “What’s best for our kids is what’s best for our state, and that’s why investing in learning opportunities and our kids’ mental health and well-being is so important. Community and educational organizations have worked around the clock this past year to support our kids and make sure they have the resources they need to be safe and successful. These grants will be critically important so we can bounce back from this pandemic as these organizations continue working to help kids and families across our state.”
Officials said grants will be awarded to organizations that serve school-age kids both virtually and in-person outside of school and during the summer months. Funding for the grants comes from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and will be administered by the Wisconsin Department of Administration.
