PORTAGE, Wis. — A Madison man was arrested Thursday afternoon after stealing a car from Portage and leading police on a short chase.
According to a news release, Marcin Staszak, 36, received several charges, including vehicle theft, operating after revocation, and operating while intoxicated.
The release said the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a stolen vehicle from Portage in the afternoon. Officials said an off-duty Rio police officer saw the car driving south on State Highway 51 near Portage.
Deputies caught up with the car north of Poynette where a chase happened on several backroads before Staszak’s car didn’t stop at a stop sign and crashed into another car.
Officials said two people in the car that was hit were taken by ambulance to UW Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Staszak tried to run away, but authorities said he was arrested and taken to Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital.
