MADISON, Wis. — Madison police say they’ve arrested a man who allegedly set off fire alarms at a south side hotel and sprayed a fire extinguisher in the hotel’s stairwell.
Police say the Madison Fire Department was originally called to the Baymont Inn at 2810 Coho Street, near Fish Hatchery Road south of the Beltline, at 10:48 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters found someone was intentionally setting off alarms at the hotel, and police were called when they determined someone removed a fire extinguisher and sprayed it despite there being no fire, setting off several alarms and causing some panic among the people staying at the hotel.
Police say the man, later identified as 41-year-old Joseph D. Posada, was confrontational at the hotel’s front desk before leaving.
He was later found and arrested on tentative charges of disorderly conduct and intentional false alarm.
