An Alert Day has been issued for southern Wisconsin. There is a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening with the main threat being large hail.

A warm front has stalled across central Wisconsin and it will be the focus for scattered thunderstorm development today. The strongest storms will be capable of producing large hail. The risk for large hail, large than the size of a quarter, will mainly be north of Dane county. Total rain from these storms could be greater than 1/2″, but most of southern Wisconsin will receive less than 1/4″ of rain. The highest rain totals will be in central and northern Wisconsin.

South of the front, temperatures will be quite warm. Highs will be near 80 degrees and it may feel a bit muggy with dewpoints climbing into the 50s. Temperatures will be much cooler north of the front where highs will only be in the 60s today. As the front sinks southward tonight, temperatures will drop quickly during the evening. Overnight lows will be near 50 degrees.
While chances for rain continue in the forecast through Thursday, no severe storms are expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
