VILLAGE OF CROSS PLAINS, Wis.– The Village of Cross Plains is celebrating the start of fishing season with the return of its annual Trout Days.
“It’s a community event to open Trout Days and gather as a community to support that and other natural resources,” Chair Kevin Engelien said.
COVID-19 canceled the event last year, which is why Engelien said it’s good to see people return to the creek for music and fun.
Local businesses across Main Street, like Montag’s Pub and Grill, are feeling positive effects from the celebration after a hard year.
“The community was out and about. Out lunch day was phenomenal. So, of course, just people feel comfortable to be amongst others is a good thing for everyone,” Owner Candace Montag said.
David Montage and Candace Montag opened their place last July. Even though the new business owners don’t know what normal looks like for their restaurant, they said they can tell the community is headed in the right direction.
“A need to get back to some normalcy,” David Montag said. “See people that you haven’t seen in several months, and just enjoying each other, enjoying the beautiful community that we have.”
All of the money raised during Trout Days will help the local Lions Club and the Village of Cross Plains host even more events like this one in the future.
“The legacy project that we’re focused on right now is a multi-use pavilion to be built here Creekside, and one of those multi-uses that we envision, working in partnership with the community and the local governments here, is music events,” Engelien said.
