MADISON, Wis. — Book lovers rejoice: Madison Public Libraries will reopen beginning May 24.
The Madison Public Library Board voted Thursday night to expand services including in-person library browsing, self-pickup holds and checkout, and access to basic desk services in person starting later this month.
All of the libraries except the Monroe Street Library will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays beginning May 24, and from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The Monroe Street location will be open Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but there will not be computer service.
Several safety precautions will still be in place for visitors, including required masks or face coverings for anyone at least five years old. Visitors must also keep six feet of distance between themselves and people not in their household, and no eating or drinking will be allowed. Capacity will also be monitored to meet current public health guidelines.
The library will phase out curbside pickup service as the libraries reopen. Customers who need a health accommodation can call their pickup library to make arrangements at madpl.org/curbside.
Last month, the Madison Public Library said concerned staff led to further delays in reopening. The libraries have not been fully open since March 2020.
