MONONA, Wis. — The Monona Police Department has a new chief starting today.
Brian Chaney Austin was sworn in as the department’s new chief Tuesday morning in a ceremony at the Monona Library. He takes over the department after spending much of the past two decades with the Madison Police Department.
The new chief says going forward, he hopes to have listening sessions to engage with the community.
“We’re in this for the right reason, I saw this as an opportunity to step up, to provide a little leadership and guidance to an exceptional police department and to a community that’s looking for change,” Chief Austin said.
The chief may not be the only new face in the department — he says they are also looking to hire officers.
