MADISON, Wis. — In just over two weeks, the largest producer-only farmers market in the country will bring fresh produce back to downtown Madison.
The Dane County Farmers’ Market announced Wednesday the beloved market is returning more than a year after the pandemic shut down Madison’s beloved outdoor events. The market will run every Saturday from 6:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
“After over a year of hosting modified operations at the Alliant Energy Center, we are excited to return downtown,” Market Co-Manager Jamie Bugel said.
The Dane County Farmers’ Market Wednesday market will also return to the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on June 23. It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
As of Wednesday, all of Dane County’s public health orders had expired, meaning masking and capacity limits county-wide will no longer be enforced by public health officials. Still, market managers are asking patrons and vendors to practice safe hygiene, mask up if unvaccinated and stay home if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
“The pandemic isn’t over, but with Dane County’s high vaccination rate and low COVID-19 case rate, we can reopen our downtown markets safely,” Market Co-Manager Jill Carlson Groendyk said.
The Dane County Faremers’ Market will still run at the Alliant Energy Center on June 5 and 12 from 7 a.m. to noon ahead of the shift back to the Square.
“So many of our farmers, bakers, and cheesemakers were able to thrive this past year due to our year-long partnership with WhatsGood and the support of the Alliant Energy Center. We are incredibly grateful for their assistance,” Bugel said.
