MADISON, Wis. — A 33-year-old man is facing charges for his involvement in a crash that led to the death of a 15-year-old girl last year.
Three people were hospitalized following the crash on Stoughton Road on Sept. 4 2020. Madison Police Department officials said a vehicle struck a guardrail and went airborne with two people inside before it landed on the hood of an oncoming vehicle. The first vehicle then continued to roll over down a hill, ejecting both passengers in the process.
The passenger of the first vehicle, a 15-year-old girl, later died at a local hospital from injuries she suffered in the crash. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.
Authorities with the MPD said Walter L. Johnson, the driver of the vehicle that went airborne, is facing charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and knowingly operating while suspended, causing death.
The Dane County District Attorney’s Office could file additional charges if warranted.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Corrections and the U.S. Marshals Service helped the MPD with their investigation.
