MIDDLETON, Wis. — With temperatures expected to climb above 90 degrees over the next few days, the City of Middleton will be opening cooling centers for the public.
A news release said the cooling centers are expected to be available from Friday to Tuesday. The centers will be open as part of the City’s emergency plan once any of the following conditions have been met:
- Projected prolonged heat or heat index equivalent at or above 90 degrees.
- State or federal emergency advisories concerning heat or heat index.
- Local, state or federal emergencies that displace citizens from their residences
in Middleton during high heat or heat index times. - Power outages of longer than 12 hours during times of high heat or heat index
experience. - Other times at the discretion of the City’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
As such, the following locations in Middleton will have cooling centers during the heat wave:
- Middleton Police Department at 7341 Donna Drive (24 hours daily)
- Middleton City Hall at 7426 Hubbard Avenue (during regular office hours)
- Middleton Senior Center at 7448 Hubbard Avenue (during regular office hours)
- Middleton Public Library at 7425 Hubbard Avenue (during regular office hours)
The release said City employees and facilities will not provide bedding or food but will offer access to cots.
